Dietro le quinte del Parco
The Gran Paradiso National Park tells its story 20 years after the death of one of its symbol ibex: Sultano.
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the death of Sultano, the oldest and most illustrious ibex of the Alps, Fondation Grand Paradis, in cooperation with the Gran Paradiso National Park, organised the event “Dietro le quinte del Parco”, held on 19 and 20 June 2014.
The initiative, addressed mainly to journalists of national newspapers, offered each participant a varied and personalized program, giving a rare chance to an in-depth knowledge of the Gran Paradiso territory. During two days, journalists have lived side-by-side with a Park Ranger, sharing his physical efforts, participating in day and night observations of fauna thanks to professional devices and discovering the secrets of a unique guard corps, on duty from dawn till dusk. As an exception, the huts of the Park, all located at an altitude between 2.000 and 2.200 metres, sheltered the journalists who followed the Park Rangers.
On June 20 2014, the initiative ended with a meeting held at the Rhêmes-Notre-Dame Visitor Centre open to the public, with the participation of Bruno Bassano, in charge of the Scientific Service, Stefano Cerise, in charge of the Surveillance Service, Ariberto Segala, Stefano Borney and Luca Mercalli, President of the Italian Meteorological Society and science journalist.
